MECHANISM FOR SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF WOMEN
Sexual harassment is any unwelcome sexual behaviour which is offensive, humiliating and/ or
intimidating. It can be of any form, i.e., verbal/ oral communication and/ or written. Our college
takes strict action against the students indulging in such activities. The Sexual Harassment at
The Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013Act, defines sexual
harassment under Section 2(n) as: –
(n) “sexual harassment” includes any one or more of the following unwelcome acts or
behaviour (whether directly or by implication) namely:
(i) physical contact and advances; or
(ii) a demand or request for sexual favours; or
(iii) making sexually coloured remarks; or
(iv) showing pornography; or
(v) any other unwelcome physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct of sexual nature;
The UGC has recommended that the Universities/Colleges/Institutes must have a committee
and a separate cell to deal with issues of gender-based violence and gender sensitization
programmes to evaluate, assist and support Higher Educational institutes to meet certain
requirements which will be made mandatory in order to give effect to a policy of zero tolerance
of gender-based violence and harassment. In view of the recommendations of the UGC we
have constituted an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and POSH Committee as per the
provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and
Redressal) Act, 2013. These Committees ensures a harassment-free environment and aims to
provide a healthy environment for all the students, Teaching staff and Non- teaching Staff
COMPLAINT MECHANISIM
Complaints against any student indulging in any form of sexual harassment should be
immediately brought to the notice of the members Internal Complaints Committee (ICC). The Complaint can be made either in writing or telephonically or in digital
form – email or WhatsApp.
The Complaints can be made by the victim student or any friend of the victim student or the
Class Representative/ Mentee of the Student or by any person having knowledge of the
incident.
